One manager told us his club lost more than 70,000 towels a year.
His comment inspired an idea.

In 2007, a health club manager shared with us that he lost more than 70,000 towels annually from towels taken by members. Knowing this, the Towel Tracker founders dedicated themselves to developing a technology that would eliminate towel theft.

Towel Tracker is an innovative system that uses radio frequency identification (RFID) to track and record towel usage and maintains towel inventory. It is easy for members to use and allows you to provide higher quality towels and cleaner environment.

Impressive as it is, Towel Tracker’s proprietary technology can pay for itself in a few short months in cost savings and potentially increased profit from optional towel fees.

How the Towel Tracker works

Each Towel Tracker towel is embedded with an RFID chip that the Towel Tracker reads whenever a towel is removed or returned. When a user swipes their access card to retrieve a towel, the system tracks and records the specific towels removed by that member.

When the towels are returned, the RFID system records them. That information is relayed to the facility’s computer system via Wi-Fi, allowing management to track every towel used, by user. Not only does this “accountability” reduce towel theft, it also provides the facility with the opportunity to charge for unreturned towels or for towels on a per-use basis, potentially turning a cost center into a profit center.

Towel usage policies

Each facility owner can choose how to utilize the Towel Tracker data. The owner determines their own policies for towel usage: no charge, charge per use or charge per loss.
